BRC Calpe Trip 2022

· 2 minutes read

After a pandemic-induced hiatus, we were thrilled to resume our annual holiday training camp in 2022. This year, we chose to visit the cycling paradise of Costa Blanca in Spain, as a departure from the previous destination, Mallorca. Over 40 members of the club joined in on the fun, taking in the stunning scenery and smooth roads around Calpe, and relaxing in the luxurious 4-star Hotel Diamante between rides.

Within the first few days, we tackled some challenging climbs from the Vuelta, including the infamous Col de Rates, and enjoyed the breathtaking views of the lake in Guadalest. And, yes, the weather was also absolutely fabulous – but let’s not rub it in!

Each evening, riders celebrated their personal victories at the hotel bar and restaurant, sharing stories of conquered mountains on (and off) their bikes or name checking the pro riders they’d spotted spinning out their tired legs on recovery rides. It was heartwarming to see everyone support each other, and there were plenty of laughs (and a few beers) along the way.

Now that they’re back in the gloomy UK winter here are some photos to reminder you that it really did happen!

And, of course, they couldn’t have pulled off such a successful trip without the amazing organisational efforts of Brian O’Kelly backed by Gwen and Andy Bevan. Kudos to them for managing to herd 40+ cyclists around, especially with all their bags and bike boxes in tow.

All in all, it was a fantastic trip filled with hard work, laughs, and good times. We are already planning our return trip in Autumn 2023!
